Warum nennen wir das Eigelb, eigentlich Dotter?

Gibt es irgendwelche lateinischen, hebräischen, griechischen Herleitungen dazu? Oder hat einfach mal irgendwann jemand gesagt: “Och, nennen wir das Ding doch Dotter!”. Und warum, fallen mir so bescheuerte Fragen ein?!

Erinnert ihr euch noch… Vor einigen Tagen habe ich den Artikel gebloggt: Greenpeace fordert vermehrten Verzehr von Kangaroo-Fleisch, um Global Warming zu bekämpfen.

Dieser Artikel hat scheinbar nicht nur auf Steve, zur Diskussion um Massentierhaltung geführt. Denn “The Age” veröffentlichte heute ebenfalls einen Artikel, der auf einen Wandel im Konsumentenverhalten hinweist. Der Aufhänger: “Du würdest niemals einen Hund in einem Käfig halten, der so klein ist, dass er sich nicht einmal umdrehen kann. Warum also glauben wir, dass es richtig ist, dies mit Schweinen zu tun? ”

HAIL has been sweeping down on central Victoria’s patchwork pastures yet Sunset, the pig, doesn’t seem to have a care in this frozen-toes world. She is happily ensconced in the stall of an old stable; her first litter about to arrive. The straw nest she has built so meticulously from the leftovers of last year’s barley crop is piled in a musty corner.

“It’s high rise,” laughs farmer Fiona Chambers, reaching down to pat her massive black-and-white-striped charge.

Sunset reacts to all the attention with a permanent upside-down-grin, but Chambers can sense the heavily pregnant sow is restless.

“Little girl”, as Chambers calls her, rolls over another 45 degrees in response to the warmth of a familiar human hand on her ample belly. This great hulk of a beast is the rare Wessex saddleback, raised by Chambers and her husband Nicholas at Fernleigh Farm in Bullarto, 10 minutes’ drive south-east of Daylesford. Sunset doesn’t know it but, by early in the new year, many of the piglets she is about to deliver will be on a dinner plate, most likely in Melbourne or nearby.

They will spend five months on the farm before being trucked to the abattoir, butchered into pork and sold in handy vacuum-packed portions.

Fernleigh Farm is one of Victoria’s few small-scale organic commercial piggeries, distinct from the factory farms that give consumers what they want - cheap meat, poultry, eggs and milk.

It’s been several decades since Peter Singer’s landmark book Animal Liberation and Tom Regan’s The Case for Animal Rights highlighted how animals feel pain and argued eloquently that mistreating them diminishes human morality. And now, a growing band of opinion makers and consumers argue that 21st-century industrial agriculture causes untold suffering to millions of animals in the farm production chain.

Fuel for a food fight has built in recent years with the release of consciousness-raising books such as Jim Mason and Singer’s The Ethics of What We Eat and Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma. Both books conclude that the food production methods used since the 1950s - driven by the demand for ever-cheaper food - are not only damaging our health and the environment: they have led to “inhumane” intensive farming of animals….

Ethicureans like their food as tasty as everyone else, but they insist it falls into at least some of four categories - sustainable, organic, local and ethical - SOLE food, for short.

MORE kangaroos should be slaughtered and eaten to help save the world from global warming, environmental activists say.

The controversial call to cut down on beef and serve more of the national symbol on our dinner plates follows a report on curbing greenhouse gas emissions damaging the planet. Greenpeace energy campaigner Mark Wakeham urged Aussies to substitute some red meat for roo to help reduce land clearing and the release of methane gas.

“It is one of the lifestyle changes we can make,” Mr Wakeham said.

“Changing our meat consumption habits is a small way to make an impact.”

The eat roo recommendation is contained in a report, Paths to a Low-Carbon Future, commissioned by Greenpeace and released today.

It also coincides with recent calls from climate change experts for people in rich countries to reduce red meat and switch to chicken and fish because land-clearing and burping and farting cattle and sheep were damaging the environment.

They said nearly a quarter of the planet’s greenhouse gases came from agriculture, which releases the potent heat-trapping gas methane.

Roughly three million kangaroos are killed and harvested for meat each year. They are shot with high-powered guns between the eyes at night.

Australians eat about a third of the 30 million kilograms of roo meat produced annually. The delicacy is exported to dozens of countries and is most popular in Germany, France and Belgium. 

The Greenpeace report has renewed calls for Victoria to lift a ban on harvesting roos for food.

Kangaroo Industry Association of Australia spokesman John Kelly said roos invading farmers’ crops were already being illegally shot.

“They are being culled and left to rot,” Mr Kelly said.

Kangaroo meat sold in Victoria is imported from interstate.

Australia’s kangaroo population has halved to 25 million in the past five years as the drought has taken a toll on breeding and the animals’ food sources, Mr Kelly said.

Under a quota system, 10 to 12 per cent can be killed for the meat and leather industry. Aerial surveys estimate their numbers.

Today’s report by leading scientist Dr Mark Diesendorf, from the University of NSW, says greenhouse gas emissions need to be slashed by at least a third by 2020 to avoid a climate change catastrophe.

His recommendations include:

REDUCING beef consumption and increasing kangaroo meat production.

CUTTING gas and coal production.

HALTING land clearing and deforestation.

SHIFTING to renewable energy such as wind power and bioelectricity from crop residues.

“The world is currently on track to experience runaway global warming with average temperatures soon to exceed 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels, Dr Diesendorf said.

“We face a catastrophe unless there is urgent action to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30 per cent by 2020.”

A major report by the CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology released this month warned average temperatures will rise 1C by 2030 and could increase as much as 5C in Australia by 2070 unless global greenhouse emissions are cut dramatically.

Sorry ich war zu faul, das alles zu übersetzen. Aber ich bin sicher ihr werdet auch so verstehen, worum es geht! ;-D

Mir dringen oft die merkwürdigsten Gedanken durch den Kopf. So fragte ich mich neulich, woher eigentlich die Tauben kommen? Ok, das Prinzip mit den Blümchen und Bienchen habe ich verstanden, das meine ich nicht. Auch habe ich bereits Tauben beim f… Geschlechtsakt gesehen. Doch noch nie ein Taubennest und auch noch nie Babytauben! Seht ihr! Eigentlich, dürfte es Tauben somit gar nicht geben.  Wahrscheinlich sind es, vom CIA eingeschleuste Agenten, die uns Menschen beobachten.

ODER!!!!

Und jetzt kommt, was ich wirklich denke: *flüster Modus* Die Tauben sind von IHNEN gemacht worden, um die totale Kontrolle über uns zu haben! Die perfekte Tarnung. Fällt gar nicht auf, da es überall Tauben gibt. Doch ich muss mich vorsehen… SIE *angeblich Bielefelder * lesen hier mit!

Wenn ich mich nicht mehr melde, wisst ihr was los ist!!!

Es ist ja nichts Neues, dass Blogger auch Statistiktools für ihre Blogs einsetzen. Es ist interessant zu sehen, aus welchen Ländern die Besuche kommen, wie viele Besucher kommen, oder mit welchen Suchbegriffen der eigene Blog gefunden wird.

Was mir nun bereits vor einigen Wochen auffiel, war die Verteilung der Besucher auf die einzelnen Wochentage *in der Statistik sprich man von der Korrelation der Besucher auf die Wochentage..klugscheiß, hehe*. Denn hier gibt es eine Auffälligkeit!!!

Während der Woche sind die Besucherzahlen, von Montag - Donnerstag, gleichbleibend bis steigend während sie Freitags stark sinken.

In der Statistik würde man nun den Korrelationskoeffizienten berechnen, also den Grad des Zusammenhangs. Ich frage mich statt dessen lediglich woran das wohl liegen mag!? Arbeitet ihr Freitags mehr als sonst, damit ihr früher nach hause könnt? Geht ihr Freitags nicht ins Büro? Schaltet euer Chef Freitags das Internet aus, weil ihr sonst vor lauter Unlust gar nicht erst arbeitet? Schnattert ihr da mehr in der Kaffeeküche, als das ihr an eurem Platz seid? Was ist los?

Kommt, löst das Rätsel auf und lasst Fudge nicht weiter grübeln.
