Gestern Abend war es soweit. Der definitiv letzte Abend, an dem in Melbourner Pubs noch geraucht werden durfte. Mit dem heutigen Tag, dem 01. Juli 2007, herrscht offiziell ein generelles Rauchverbot für alle Pubs im Bundesstaat Victoria.
Bislang war es so geregelt, dass in öffentlichen Gebäuden und Restaurants nicht geraucht werden durfte und nur in Pubs mit einer speziellen Lizenz durfte geraucht werden. Doch dies ist nun Geschichte.
Die “used to be smoking pubs” celebrierten mit ihren rauchenden Gästen, gestern das Ende einer Ära. Bei “Farewell Cigarette-” und “Last Puff Parties”, mit Musik von David Bowie (Ashes to Ashes) und Oasis (Cigarettes and Alcohol), hatte man gestern als Raucher noch die Chance kurz vor Mitternacht seinen last smoke im Pub zu genießen.
Vom heutigen Tag an, werden in ganz Victoria nun die Raucher “vor die Tür gesetzt”.
Ich selbst habe vor etwa 2,5 Monaten aufgehört zu rauchen. Es fiel mir hier sicherlich wesentlich einfacher, als in Deutschland. Nicht nur weil hier die meisten meiner Freunde Nichtraucher sind, sondern weil Cafés und dergleichen eben nicht geraucht werden durfte. Also kam ich auch nicht so leicht auf die Idee unbedingt eine zu wollen.
Aber selbst jetzt, da ich nicht mehr rauche, sehe ich keinen zwingenden Grund die bisherige Regelung, die man hier in Victoria hatte, zu ändern. Wer wollte, konnte in Raucherpubs gehen und wer dazu keine Lust hatte, hatte genügend andere Alternativen.
Die Gesundheitsministerin lächelte vorhin bei einem Fernsehinterview in die Kamera und gab den Rauchern den Hinweis, dass nun mit Beginn des neuen Financial Years (das hier am 01.07. beginnt… hier ist alles verdreht in Down Under 
) für Raucher, durch diese gesetzliche Regelung, auch die Möglichkeit geschaffen wurde eine Menge Geld zu sparen.
Sprich: Ausgehen + nicht rauchen + kein Geld für Zigaretten ausgeben = Steuerersparnis
Tja wenn es so einfach wäre…
Schade nur, dass vom Bundesstaat keinerlei aktive Hilfe zur Rauchentwöhnung angeboten wird, für jene die es versuchen wollen. Da gefällt mir das Konzept das Frankreich, mit der Einführung des Rauchverbotes, anbot wesentlich besser. Firmen unterstützten mit Seminaren ihre Arbeitnehmer, der Staat bot Rauchentwöhnungsprogramme an, etc…
