Es nervt ein wenig sich als Nicht-Australier in Melbourne unters Volk zu mischen und wann immer man den Mund aufmacht zu hören bekommt: Oh you’ve got an accent, where are you from?
Ehrlich es ist nicht lustig, denn je nachdem wie häufig man unterwegs ist und wie kommunikativ man sich gibt, kann es Tage geben an denen dies locker bis zu 5 Mal vorkommt.
Interessant wird es allerdings, wenn gar nicht erst gefragt wird, sondern gleich “geschätzt”wird, wo man herkommt. Für gewöhnlich werde ich als Irin, Schwedin oder Holländerin abgestempelt. Doch seit einigen Wochen scheint sich die Melbourner Welt plötzlich einig zu sein, wo ich wirklich herkomme. Denn man ist einstimmig der Meinung, ich sei Südafrikanerin!!!!!
Ich konnte es selbst nicht fassen, als der 5. innerhalb von einer Woche diesen Tipp abgab. Und wie klingen Südafrikaner?
Des Rätsels Lösung war schnell gefunden.
Melbourne hat recht. Ich klinge wirklich wie ein Südafrikaner. Dies musste ich feststellen, als ich neulich America’s Next Topmodel sah und Fotoaufnahmen in besagtem Land stattfanden. Der Akzent ist tatsächlich eine Mischung aus Deutsch, Britisch und weiß nicht was.
Aber ich glaube ich will lieber Irin sein oder Schwedin. Südafrikanerin sein gefällt mir nicht! Aber immerhin scheint mein Englisch so gut zu ein, dass man mich zumindest für einen Muttersprachler hält. Immerhin ein kleiner Trost:-)
