Es regnet in Strömen und scheint gar nicht aufhören zu wollen. In der Wohnung sind es gefühlte – 8 Grad und meine Zehen spüre ich, trotz dicker Norwegersocken, nicht mehr.
Draußen sind es ungefähr 6 Grad, und es gewitterte vorhin aus allen Kanonenrohren. Jeder der ein Gewitter am Meer einmal miterlebt hat, weiss welche Höllenängste ich gerade ausstehen musste. Und dann kam…. man glaubt es kaum… HAGEL!!! Unfassbar!

Wer diese Sätze liest wird unweigerlich denken, ich lebe im kältesten Land der Welt, oder der Post ist versehentlich zeitlich im Archiv verrutscht. Aber niemand, NIEMAND wird mir glauben, dass ich gerade in Down Under an meinem Laptop sitze. Das Land, von dem man glaubt es sei ewig Sonnenschein und immer 40 Grad am Tag. Pah! Das dachte ich auch einmal!
Ok, der Fairness halber muss man sagen, dass ich am südlichsten Ende von AUS wohne – in Melbourne und es dort immer ein gutes Stück kälter ist, als im Rest des Landes. Selbst im Sommer ist das so. Wobei man sich dann dennoch über 38 Grad und mehr erfreuen kann (mehr oder weniger). Deswegen sind die Wohnungen hier meistens recht luftig konstruiert. Sprich, es zieht in allen Ecken und man fühlt wie der Wind an den Füßen weht. Isolierung – ein Fremdwort!
Und doch sieht man trotz der Kälte draußen teilweise Leute Flip Flops, oder Ballarina Flats (ohne Strümpfe) tragen. Oben dick verpackt und unten fast barfuß. Am Wochende ein ähnliches Spiel. Man geht weg und alle australischen Mädels tragen Sandalen und dünne Kleider, meist rückenfrei, oder ähnliches. Keine Jacken, keine Nylons, nichts!!! Ich verstehe es nicht. Es ist mir unbegreiflich! Und deswegen habe ich neulich einen Selbsttest gestartet.
Ich zog mich warm an – Strickkleid, Leggins, Mütze, Schal – nur die Füße waren einfach nur mit Ballerinas bekleidet (keine Socken!!!).
Und dann ging ich zum Bäcker und in den Supermarkt. Insgesamt dauerte meine Mission vielleicht 30 min, doch als ich wieder zu hause war hatte ich das Gefühl Eisklumpen statt Füße zu haben. So viel zu diesem Versuch…
Doch als ich neulich beim Live Earth Konzert war, entdeckte ich des Rätsels Lösung. In der Reihe vor mir *ja ich gestehe, ich hatte einen Sitzplatz 
* saß eine Familie mit zwei kleinen Kids. Vielleicht 4 und 9 J. Und als die Sonne weg war, war es nun wahrlich ziemlich kühl. *Es war ein Open Air* Doch weder Mutter, noch Vater dachten daran ihren Kindern Strümpfe anzuziehen.
Es wird sogar noch besser!! Der Junge hatte sogar kurze Hosen an!!! Und genau da machte es bei mir Klick! Australier weigern sich einfach anzuerkennen, dass es in ihrem Land auch einmal kalt werden kann. Und aus dem Grund werden Kinder schon ganz früh kälteresistent gemacht. Das erklärt auch weshalb es in den meisten Wohnungen keine Heizung gibt!
Simple Lösung!!! Wenn man das den Eskimos erzählen würde, müssten die Ärmsten auch nicht immer in diesen hässlichen Felljacken und Stiefeln rumlaufen! Aber vielleicht liest ja einer der Eskimos diesen Bericht… *grins*
Und jetzt da ich den Post fertig habe, scheint draußen auch wieder die Sonne und die Vögel quietschen munter. Verrücktes Melbourne!!!

Ich hab Elektroheizung, da geht es. Aber will gar nicht wissen wie die Stromrechnung aussieht *ganz weiss werd*

Vielleicht läuft es tatsächlich mit Abhärtung und Selbstsuggestion “Meine Füße sind warm…”. 
Verrücktes Wetter. Das es bei euch im Sommer so kalt werden kann, hätte ich tatsächlich nicht vermutet. *g* Allerdings hätte ich auch nie erwartet, dass es bei uns mal knapp 40 Grad werden würde. *kopfschüttel*
@ Sisou: Eigentlich haben wir auch nicht Sommer zur Zeit. Hier ist gerade Winter. Wenn in Deutschland alle an Winterdepression leiden ist hier dann Hochsommer.
Naja nimm doch mal die Menschen die immer ohne Schuhe laufen die sagen ja auch das sie die Kälte nicht spüren vielleicht sind wir alle nur zu verweichlicht
@ Fudge: *lach* Au Mensch, das hab ich komplett verpeilt… Mein Gehirn ist zur Zeit nicht mehr funktionstüchtig. Zu heiß.
Mir scheint die Australier sind eine Mischung aus Engländern und Spaniern.
In England ist mir nämlich das gleiche aufgefallen. Da ziehen Leute selbst im Winter nur offene Schuhe oder Schuhe ohne Strümpfe an und nachts beim Weggehen liefen die Mädls mit Mini-Bauchfrei, allesfrei Kleidchen und Sandalen rum, während ich mit meinem dicken Mantel daneben stand und fror! Aber wenigstens haben die Häuser dort Heizungen!
Die Spanier dagegen mummeln sich bei 8ºC schon ein als würden sie zum Skifahren gehen, ihre Häuser sind dafür aber überhaupt nicht gegen die Kälte gerüstet. Es gibt kaum Heizungen, überall zieht es durch, die Fenster sind papierdünn und bestehen oft nur aus aufklappbaren Lamellen (vorzugsweise im Bad – da macht die winterliche Morgendusche besonders Spass).
Ich verstehs nicht, ich nehme an, es ist tatsächlich Abhärtung schon in Kindertagen wie du sagst.

Na ja, jetzt Gott sei Dank nicht mehr. – Ich meine das kalte Bad an Wintertagen. Wir haben ja jetzt eine eigene Wohnung, und da wurde natürlich an sowas gedacht.
Ich habe vier Jahre in England gelebt und bin dort zur Schule gegangen. Wir Mädles mussten Röcke und Kniestrümpfe tragen, auch im Winter.Zwar waren an kalten Tagen auch Strumpfhosen erlaubt, aber nur wenige machten Gebrauch davon. Meine englischen Freundinnen waren es seit früher Kindheit gewohnt,auch bei Frost und Schnee mit nackten Beinen zu gehen.Ich brauchte einen Winter lang, um mich an diese englische Marotte zu gewöhnen.
Die ersten 12 Lebensjahre verbrachte ich in England.Unser Schuluniform sah in der Primaryschool kurze Hosen vor. Im Winter durften auch lange Hosen angezogen werden.Aber einige Eltern,auch meine deutsche Mutter und mein sehr englischer Vater ließen ihre Sprößlinge ganzjährig in kurzen Hosen gehen.Wenn Schnee lag und auch tagsüber die Temperaturen im Frostbereich blieben, war das schon eine harte Prüfung. Mein Vater war aber nun mal der Meinung, dass kleine Jungen kurze Hosen zu tragen haben. Und so lernte ich dann, mit blaugefrorenen Beinen auf den verspäterteten Schulbus zu warten.
Ich habe in den 60er Jahren zum Kleid oder Rock die meiste Zeit im Jahr Söckchen oder Kniestrümpfe getragn. Strumpfhosen gab es nur von November bis Angang März. So kam es durchaus vor, dass ich manchmal morgens bei leichtem Frost mit nackten Beinen zur Schule ging. Ich war immer im Zwiespalt: Einerseits war ich stolz darauf, schon Kniestrümpfe anziehen zu dürfen, während meine Freundinnen bis Ostern oder manchmal noch länger warten musten. Andererseits war das Frieren nicht so angenehm. An manchen Tagen wurde meine Beine in der Schule gar nicht warm, denn mit jeder Pause begann das Frieren erneut.
Und dann die Reaktion der Leute. Meine Freundinnen beneideten mich oft, denn es gab ja bei uns soetwas wie einen Wettstreit, wer den als Erstec im Jahr mit Kniestrümpfen zur Schule kam. Anders die Reaktionen einiger Leute in unserer Nachbarschaft: “Ach Rita, frierst du denn nicht?”, oder: “Du bist aber mutig, jetzt schon in Kniestrümpfen zu gehen!”
Wenn ich mit meiner Mutter unterwegs war, wurde sie auch schon mal angesprochen: “Wollen sie ihrer Kleinen nicht lieber eine Strumpfhose anziehen?” Meine Mama hatte aber eine klare Meinung dazu: “Wenn Rita oben warm angezogen ist (Mantel, Mütze), dann kann ihr die kühle Luft an den Beinen nichts anhaben”. Mädchen und Kniestrümpfe, das entsprach eben ihrem Modeideal
Im Februar hatten wir den ganzen Monat hindurch sehr mildes Wetter. Deshalb ziehen meine Töchter, vier und sechs Jahre alt, zur Zeit meistens Röcke an. Oben tragen Sie warme, langärmlige Pullover, und draußen natürlich auch eine Jacke. Da Ihre Röcke nur wenig oberhalb der Knie enden, meine ich, dass sie zur Zeit keine Strumpfhosen anzuziehen brauchen. Deshalb lasse ich sie zu ihren Röcken Kniestrümpfe anziehen. Ich finde, bei diesem milden Wetter ist das für die Mädchen die richtige Kleidung. Kühle Luft an die Beine zu bekommen, schadet ihnen sicher nicht.
Zu meiner Schulzeit in den 1950er Jahren waren in unserer Stadt viele englische Soldaten mit ihren Familien stationiert. Im Winter trugen die englischen Jungen lange Hosen, aber die englischen Mädchen trugen Röcke und kurze Söckchen oder Kniestrümpfe. Sie waren wohl wetterfester als die Jungen. Deshalb wollte meine Mutter, dass auch ich im Winter ohne Strumpfhose in die Schule gehe. Sie bestand zwar darauf, dass ich im Winter einen Anorak mit Winterfutter, Handschuhe und eine Mütze anziehe. Aber unten durfte ich zum Rock nur Kniestrümpfe anziehen. Wenn ich in der Schule ankam, hatte ich zwar oft eiskalte Beine, aber weil ich oben warm angezogen war, habe ich nicht gefroren.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
