Zur Zeit sind heftige Bushfire im Bundesstaat Victoria, in dem Melbourne liegt, zu Gange. Die Medien berichten, es seien die schlimmsten Bushfire, die es in Victoria je gab. Die Australier sind normaler Weise an Meldungen über Feuerbrände gewöhnt. Ist es doch jedes Jahr so, wenn der Sommer beginnt, beginnen auch die Brände.
Doch dieses Mal scheint es wirklich schlimm zu sein. Denn selbst hier in Melbourne bemerkt man unweigerlich die Feuer, wenn man nur schon auf den Balkon oder die Straße tritt. Die Luft riecht nach Rauch. Eine Art Rauchnebel bedeckt die Stadt und so kommt es zu bizarren Feststellungen. Schaut man die Straße hinunter, sieht man ab einer gewissen Entfernung nichts mehr, denn man blickt nur noch in eine Art weißer Nebel. Und die Augen zwicken permanent.
Es sind hier zur Zeit 37° Grad, was die Wohnung zu einem Ofen werden lässt. Doch man will die Fenster auch nicht aufstellen, weil dann der Rauchgeruch herein kommt. Mal abgesehen davon, dass es draußen auch nicht kälter ist und ein Lüftungsvorgang sinnlos wäre.

Auf dem linken Bild hier sieht man die Skyline der Stadt, wie man sie normaler Weise sieht. Und auf dem rechten Bild, wie sie zur Zeit vom Rauchnebel verdeckt ist. Beide Bilder wurden vom selben Standort aus aufgenommen.
